Winter Holiday Closings

The library will be closed for Christmas Thursday, December 24-Saturday, December 26. We will reopen at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 27.

The library will be closed for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day Thursday, December 31 and Friday, January 1. We will reopen at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 2.

We wish everyone a happy holiday season!

Winter Concerts 2015

This Sunday, 12/13, the library will feature two Winter Concerts:

At 2 pm, celebrated jazz guitarist Jake Reichbart will perform holiday classics and original music in Meeting Rooms A and B.

At 2:15, Michigan's Premier Handbell Ensemble, led by Darlene Ebersole will perform a concert of Classical Bells in the Faust Area.

The Library Board meeting scheduled for December 9, 2015 has been canceled. The next Library Board meeting is scheduled for January 13, 2016.

Great American Smokeout - Follow-up
Free Oral Cancer Screenings Dec. 5

As a follow-up to the Great American Smokeout, the library is happy to announce that Dr. Michael Reich D.D.S, P.C of Garden City is offering Free Oral Cancer Screenings on Saturday, December 5. Screenings will be conducted between 9am - noon. No appointment is needed, however, you must pick up a coupon at the Reference Desk at the Public Library of Westland. Dr. Reich's office is located at 7110 Venoy, Garden City 48135. An oral cancer screening might just save your life.

Introducing Beanstack

The Youth Department is happy to introduce Beanstack to our community of families and readers. This new e-resource offers:

  • weekly book recommendations and learning tips for kids and their caregivers that target books in Westland library's catalog; 
  • learning tracks that kids and families can follow at their own pace to earn badges;
  • book lists and app lists that libraries around the U.S. recommend for use with your family; 
  • online sign-up and tracking for Summer Reading Program;
  • and much, much more.

Beanstack will officially be open for all library users on Tuesday, December 1st. Set up a profile for your child(ren) at http://westland.beanstack.org/.
