The Michigan hockey community has a long and rich history and the Westland Public Library will celebrate Hockey Day in Michigan with a multi-media presentaion on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 1:00 p.m.
Historic photos will be displayed and discussed with moderation from Raymond Rolak. Rolak, a veteran broadcaster will share some of the lost-to-history hockey stories that were pioneered in Detroit, including the unique success of Mel Wakabayashi at the University of Michigan.
Details of both mens and women’s hockey history will be touched on including the most historic year for the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association. Learn about the 10,000 rinks project that helped build an ice rink in Zakopane, Poland. This and more will lend to the historical pedigree of both Michigan peninsulas and what is truly part of this hockey heritage wonderland.
This sixth annual Hockey Day in Michigan is being spearheaded by the Central Collegiate Hockey Association and nationally by USA Hockey.
