Welcome to the Westland Public Library

Library News

Our interim director, Marilyn Kiwk, lent us the space outside her office for the sizable food contributions.
Food for Fines: final count

Thank you to everyone who pitched in for our Food for Fines efforts. While the total food count has not yet been tallied (non-fine related donations have not yet been counted), we were able to collect 1,974 food items aimed toward fines, totalling $2,857.30 in reduced fines for our patrons. With our final food run to come early next week, we are projecting donations of over 1 ton (2000 pounds!) of food. Great job, Westland! This program shows how doing the little things adds up to an enormous contribution for the community at large. Have a safe and happy New Year!

Note: the final delivery occurred today (1/6/11) and our grand total of donated food came to 2,800 pounds! Unbelievable job, Westland. We've set the mark to beat in coming years.

Lunar eclipse tonight

If any of you happen to be awake at 1:30am tonight make sure to look up at the sky: tonight the Earth's shadow will cover the moon, creating a lunar eclipse.  The moon will still be visible but will appear red as a result of the indirect light shining off of it.  Neat, eh?

Food for Fines: Week 4

We are rolling right along with food donations for Gleaners Food Bank. We have more than we can count at this point, but current estimates have us at 1500 food items and over $1600 in forgiven fines. We should break 2000 food items, no problem. Thank you so much, Westland and patrons from surrounding communities! You've done us all proud.

We have 8 more days of this program, so if you haven't taken advantage of it yet or would like to donate food to a good cause, stop by the library anytime during our operating hours (Mon-Thur, 9-9; Fri-Sat, 9-5; Sun, 12-5). Happy holidays to all!
